"You Know You're Right" : Thoughts on Suicide Notes of Importance

by Jim Kopetz

Suicide and artistic malcontent go hand in hand. Don't be Billy Bibbit.

Kurt Cobain's suicide note was rambling, but the sentiment in his music told more than most suicides.

'You Know You're Right' sums up the frustration and fragmentation of the man vs. the artist more than any note in his journals. It was the lyrics that told the tale, and the bullet would end it. Not with a whimper but with a bang.

Hunter S. Thompson on the other hand had finished his work. He had given up on the world, and left us with one last masterpiece:

To Hunter.

For there are no last words.
from Jeff Buckley.
From Elliot Smith.
From Mitch Hedberg.
From Greg Giraldo.
From Heath Ledger.
From Layne Stayley.
From the end to the beginning, we dance.

Poor one for the homies. This is the prelude to the end of the world.
