We enter Into the Abyss and ponder the death penalty, as Connecticut abolishes it.
When I first heard about Connecticut abrogating the death penalty, my thoughts immediately went to Werner Herzog's latest documentary 'Into the Abyss', leading me down a Herzogian hole of life, death, and the eternal abyss we all must face. Do murderers deserve to live? Should tax dollars go to trying to rehabilitate psychopathic killers, rapists, and the innocent? What about the innocent? If one dies as an innocent man does it balance out with those guilty?

Capital punishment... i too have mixed emotions regarding this practice. As a taxpayer, I do not want to pay for the inmate's food, medical care, etc. for the next 50 years. If the crime calls for the death penalty, kill the fucker. However, as sick and twisted as it may be, I do get some pleasure out of the distress an inmate feels while on death row, otherwise known as the death row phenomenon. Suffer. Suffer as your victim suffered. Feel the anxiety and fear your victim felt. Do i feel the death penalty is immoral? No. Do I feel it is necessary to keep some type of order in a world so out of control I fear for my future children's lives? Yes. I guess my emotions aren't conflicted on whether or not capital punishment should exist, I'm only conflicted on how much I should pay and how long they should be tormented...
