Modesty Ablaze

by Jim Kopetz

Obsolete observations
and cancer vacations.
We live and we die
on our own.

So they say
It won't hurt but it won't go away.
It won't hurt it'll just go away.
They say.
Modesty ablaze.

Secretly secreting,
No cut but we're bleeding.
and I,
I live to die.

So they say
It won't hurt but it won't go away.
It won't hurt it'll just go away.
They say.
Modesty ablaze.

Fighting, igniting,
and forever biting, a lip.
So we sip.
And wish it all away.

So they say
It won't hurt but it won't go away.
It won't hurt it'll just go away.
They say.
Modesty ablaze.
