Mayan Doomsday 2012 - Bucket Lists

We are all going to die.

Not to sound grandiose, but a truer sentence may not have been written in the English language. Doomsday is upon us, brave reader!

With the Mayan Long Count ending in a week, we must all examine our lives. Our time is  melting, shifting and shrinking with every passing second. Let us not waste it.

The Mayans, like all civilizations, had strengths and weaknesses. The Mayans were phenomenally advanced when it came to many things, namely pyramid building and dealings with the  stars. They weren't too good at defending their civilization or saving it from complete and utter ruin, but we'll let that slide.

We have mere days until our Earth stops spinning. The most likely scenario is that the Mayan gods will erupt from earth and  spew lava upon all of us. That's the reality. We need to focus. What are the kids doing these days? Making bucket lists. Things to do  before we die.

The Generic Bucket List  (Fifty year-old professional)

1. Run a marathon
2. Meet the favorite celebrity
3. Go skydiving / bungee jumping
4. Visit Prague in the Fall
5. See the sun set in all fifty states.

The Amazing Bucket List   (Young Male)

1. Fuck two models at once. "At once," meaning both immediately and at the same time
2. See one million dollars on a bank statement
3. Do a line of cocaine off of a stripper's ass in Bangkok
4. Fly in a private jet/ fly a private jet
5. Become the new member of N.W.A. for their reunion album

The "What We Should Want" Bucket List  (Universal)

1. Find the one person who makes our heart constantly beat faster.
2. Combine with that person and see our sons or daughters grow into a good human beings.
3. Get that occupation that moves us and ceases to be an occupation
4. Live every day in a balanced fashion, without fear or recklessness
5. Become the new member of N.W.A. for their reunion album

The world is ending. As said before, we are all going to die painful lava deaths.  How do you want to meet your end? With fear in your heart or with an open mind and clear conscious?

There are people that are buying bunkers and hoarding food. That's insanity. No one wants want to die in a room full of canned goods. We want to die knowing we did the things we loved with and for the people we love.

If consciousness really ends with death, and we are not linked to something  greater, we need to start making the time count.

Don't just watch sunsets. Don't skydive because other people skydive and say it's great. Don't just do cocaine off of  strange prostitutes because other people say it's literally mind blowing.

Do what you are afraid to do. Push yourself. Live bravely. That way, in a week, when the Long Count ends and the Mayan gods rain hell-fire and the earth turns to a wasteland, we can smile and laugh and  truly know we made our time count.

  1. The predicted world’s end on 21 December is nonsense – but the ‘Millennium Bug’ was not. There’s a difference, and it’s important to the human race that we understand what it is. See my latest blog: ‘Mayan Catastrophe versus Millennium Bug’:
