Women Should Suffer, Too: Yet Another One of PETA's Bizarre Campaign Ads

By Courtney M.

I really hate to give PETA any more attention than I need to. But, for whatever reason, the organization still doesn’t seem to understand that their overwhelmingly embarrassing use of “shock and awe” campaign tactics to bring attention to the needless suffering of animals completely de-legitimizes their cause and makes them the laughing stock of the western world.

If any other credible organization put forth this kind of campaign ad (above) for reasons of protest propaganda, my head would be spinning. Linda Blair-style. Narrated by actor-comedian Kevin Nealon, no less, the video depicts a pants-less girl walking home after suffering from the completely made-up dietarily-sexual phenomenon known as “BWVAKTBOOM—Boyfriend Went Vegan and Knocked The Bottom Out of Me.”

Oh.

What?

What the fuck is this video even saying? “Guys, become a vegan so you can ‘bottom out’ your girlfriend and injure her so badly you leave her in a neck brace and chip the dry-wall in the process…?” Or does it say, “Becoming a vegan means that your dumb, sexual-slave girlfriend completely loses her dignity and forgets to wear pants on the way out to buy more raw vegetables for you; so that you can cause even more bodily harm to her during your subsequent sexual escapades…?”

I’m not even going to go into how disturbing it is that a more-or-less naked girl sporting a neck brace willingly disrobes for her boyfriend—implicitly giving him and dumbass viewers the message that it’s ok for him to do that to her, that he would want to do that to her, and that—perhaps most disturbingly--she actually wants him to harm her.

Sexy.

So in order to bring awareness and to stop the needless suffering of animals, PETA thinks the best way to do that is to promote the needless suffering of women by glamorizing violence in order to push a shitty diet strategy?
