Life is Suffering: A Children's Poem

Young one, drunk on milk and mother's charms
do not dream of the future and what it can bring
think only of the present, not the Christmas kind
for life is suffering!

Brave son, wearer of the cardboard space helmet
do not dream of being an astronaut
for you are horribly, unforgivably stupid
there are only so few that can be astronauts
and life is suffering!

Sweet daughter, bringer of joy to your father
do not dream of making him happy
for you will most likely end up a prostitute
selling your body for a bump of bath salts
and life is suffering!

Little athlete, blue participation ribbon in hand
do not dream of the big leagues
for your ACL is as weak as a single blade of grass
your running betrays your girlishness
and life is suffering!

Perfect ballerina, butterfly of the recital
do not dream of the lights of Broadway
for your twirls are spastic and frightful
simply spinning is not ballet
and life is suffering!

Young one, drunk on cut grass and the sun's rays
do not dream of the future and what it can bring
realize your existence and embrace life
as a late-shift toll booth attendant
for life is suffering!

  1. What a sad sad commentary on limited perceptions and a child brought into this fucked up world without LOVE!
