It all started with a song.
With that song, MJK and Tool raised the bar for us all. But it was simply the beginning. The hatred for any and all organized religion became a focal point for much of Mr. Keenan's music, even post-Tool.
The song appeared on Tool's first album, aptly titled "Opiate". They went on to create possibly the greatest tome against religion since Voltaire, or Mencken. The song is called, Eulogy and it is one hell of a piece. Also I apologize for the font used in the following video.
Fuck you, Jesus. "A day on the cross. A weekend in hell, and all the hallelujahs of the legioned angels for eternity! Try seven years in fuckin' Otisville, J.!" And I guess while we're at it, fuck Moses and fuck Mohammad. If this puts a fatwa on my head so be it, I relish a victory against the fascist extremists. You'll be welcomed by your seventy-two virgins until you tell them you bombed a simple blogger. They will laugh and point at your God-ordained penis and deny you the pleasure you seek. And you will ask yourself, "Why?". And the best part is...no one will answer. But that is neither here or there. Where were we?
Ahh yes. The life of Maynard James Keenan. During a break from Tool, he created A Perfect Circle. Their first single was this:
About his religious mother, paralyzed from the waist down, and her constant admiration for her "creator". It doesn't come from a place of hatred, but rather that of love. Why? Why give yourself to some bastard? After all, "He did it all for you".
I'm sure there is more to say on this topic but you should dig into it for yourself. I am merely here to inspire you to dig deep. REAL fucking deep. After all...
This is the prelude to the end of the world.
